Blooming Mystery Trees

New growth on Sassafras Tree

So this is a Sassafras

Yesterday we learned that a couple of  “Blooming Mystery Trees” down in the front are Sassafras Trees.

They’re interesting trees, featuring 3 different types of leaves on each tree:

  1. Ovate
  2. 3-Lobed
  3. Mitten shaped

The crushed roots and leaves smell like Root Beer, and I’ve read that they are used to make Sasparilla.

I haven’t had any Sasparilla since I was a tot.  I guess a little research on how to make some is in order.
